Who’s Here at The Space introduces you to current and past tenants who have brought their services here! Liquid Improv helps adults build confidence, find their voice, and reconnect with play through fun, supportive improv classes.
Let’s start at the beginning — what’s the story behind your business? What moment or experience made you think, “I need to create this”?
After studying improv for over 20 years on and off, I had a chance to teach with two major companies in Los Angeles. One was called Improv Valet, and the other is The Groundlings Theater and School. Performing improv had a profound effect on my life. As a performance art, it was so exciting to create something that was so in the moment and disappeared after the performance. Something wonderful, right away. It opened me up as a person in social settings, business settings, and as a creator all through the power of saying “yes and…” The opportunity to help adults find their play has been one of the most rewarding experiences so far in my creative journey. Watching people discover their voice and lose their self-consciousness is extremely fulfilling. I just knew I needed to create classes of my own to continue to spread the joy of improv!
If someone has never heard of what you do, how would you describe it in a way that feels true to you?
I help adults play, take chances, and find their voice and their confidence!
You’re wonderful! What’s the feeling you’re trying to create for people who walk into your event?
Liquid Improv strives to create a fun, supportive, joyful, and safe atmosphere for anyone and everyone to find their voice and express themselves with humor and play! When a person’s at play, they are the most themselves!
Is there a story or moment with participants that really stayed with you?
One of my favorite things about class is watching people go from shy and introverted to best friends by the end of class!
Tell us a story about a time you overcame a challenge in your business:
I’ve just started out, but we were challenged with a small class size, which led me to jump into the class to fill out the numbers a little better. Everyone really stepped up and put themselves out there, and thankfully everyone was able to get a lot of individualized attention! Dealing with smaller class sizes can be hard, so I’m working on building more momentum.
What’s next for you? What are you dreaming into right now?
I’d like to work with people in corporate to help with teambuilding and communication. Improv can be applied to so many different areas of industry.
If someone’s on the fence about attending your event, what would you want them to know?
Improv is easy, fun, and simple, and before you know it, you’ll be laughing and wishing class was every day!
How do you take care of yourself as a facilitator/creator while running events for others?
I continue to nurture my art and take classes, perform more, and improvise when I can!
